First Frost & Tips to Protect Your Pipes

As the first frost approaches, we want to share some easy tips to help you protect your home from plumbing issues caused by freezing temperatures. Check out these quick steps that could save you from expensive repairs:

Insulate Pipes: protect any pipes in attics, crawl spaces, and exterior walls by insulating them.

Seal Cracks and Gaps: inspect your home for any gaps or cracks, especially around where pipes enter or exit (such as dryer vents or water pipes).

Outdoor Precautions: disconnect garden hoses and winterize outdoor faucets. If your faucets have shut-off valves, close them and drain the faucets. For extra protection, consider adding faucet covers.

Drip Faucets: when temperatures drop, allow a small drip of both hot and cold water from your faucets to keep the water moving and prevent pipes from freezing.

Keep Your Home Heated: maintain the temperature in your home at a minimum of 55°F (13°C), even if you're going to be away. This could help keep pipes warm enough to prevent freezing.

Alert a Neighbor When Away: if you're going to be away for an extended period, ask a trusted neighbor to check your house or contact us to arrange a seasonal water shut-off at (719) 256-4310.

Emergency Contact Information: in case of a water or sewer emergency, please contact our main office at 719-256-4310. If it’s outside of our normal business hours, our answering service will assist you, and an operator will be dispatched as needed.

Stay warm and safe!
